This Privacy Policy explains how NeuroSpeech AI Ltd and the Neurotherapeutics Group at University College London (UCL) collect, use, and protect personal data when you use the iReadMore reading therapy app. Please read it carefully. It describes your rights and how to contact us.
This notice supplements wider UCL privacy information, including the UCL general privacy notice and the research participants privacy notice where those apply.
1. About us
iReadMore was developed through research at UCL (Queen Square Institute of Neurology and Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience) and is published by NeuroSpeech AI Ltd, working with development partners.
UCL (company incorporated by Royal Charter, number RC 000631) is the data controller for personal data processed for research and therapy evaluation purposes connected with iReadMore. NeuroSpeech AI Ltd and its development partners process data as instructed for operating and supporting the app.
2. Personal data we collect
Personal data means information that identifies you, or could identify you. It does not include data where identity has been removed (anonymous data).
Depending on how you use iReadMore, we may collect:
- Account details such as name, email address, and login identifiers (including Google or Apple sign-in where you choose those options)
- Subscription and purchase status processed via the app store (for example Google Play or Apple App Store)
- Therapy usage and performance data (for example reading test results, training progress, and session activity)
- Device or technical identifiers needed to run and secure the app
- Support communications you send to us (for example emails to ireadmore@ucl.ac.uk)
- Special category data relating to health, where this is necessary to provide therapy or evaluate its effectiveness, and where the law allows (typically based on your consent or another lawful basis)
3. How we use your personal data
We use your personal data to:
- Create and manage your iReadMore account
- Deliver adaptive reading therapy and show your progress
- Process subscriptions and free trial access
- Provide customer support
- Maintain security, prevent misuse, and improve the app
- Evaluate clinical effectiveness and improve reading rehabilitation research, using anonymised or aggregated data where possible
Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw consent at any time by contacting us. Withdrawal does not affect processing already carried out lawfully before withdrawal.
Anonymised data (data from which you cannot be identified) may be used for service evaluation, education and research, or published reports, journals, and conferences.
4. Who we share data with
Access to personal information is limited to people who need it to operate iReadMore or support related research at UCL. We may share data with service providers who help run the app, including:

- App store providers (Google / Apple) for purchases and account authentication features you use
We require third parties to respect the security of your personal data and to process it only for specified purposes under our instructions. We do not sell your personal data.
5. Lawful basis for processing
Depending on the activity, our lawful bases under UK data protection law may include:
- Consent
- Performance of a contract (providing the app and subscription)
- Public task (research and public-interest activities at UCL)
- Legitimate interests, where these are not overridden by your rights
6. International transfers
We aim not to transfer your personal data outside the UK / European Economic Area except where necessary to provide the service (for example through cloud or app-store infrastructure) and with appropriate safeguards required by law.
7. Information security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to help prevent personal data being accidentally lost, used, or accessed in an unauthorised way, altered, or disclosed. We have procedures for suspected personal data breaches and will notify you and regulators where legally required.

We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes set out in this policy, including legal, accounting, or reporting requirements. UCL research and records retention follow UCL Records Retention Schedule practices where applicable.
